We are all exposed to the same medium and the same scarcity of local bookstores, so we have opted to scratch our own fleas and if anyone finds something worthwhile, then we pass on the book or the recommendation…The Dark Elf book has undergone with me all the tests of quality that I can apply to a new book. Needless to say, as soon as I finished reading it, I was already recommending it to anyone I knew might like it. In months, this is the book that has earned my sincere recommendations the most.

Aldmer

Known by humans as High Elves and in their language as Altmer, they come from the island of Estivalia and are considered the purest descendants of the ancient Aldmer. Physically they stand out for being taller than other elves, with a golden skin tone and a slender physiognomy.

The Altmer have, in general, a very high conception of themselves as denoted by the names they usually use for their race (“The Chosen People” or “The Cultured People”) and some of them maintain an attitude of superiority with respect to other races (including the elves themselves). Like almost all elves, they possess a great talent for magic, thanks to their large reserves of energy.

The Dark Elves maintained tense relations with the First Empire of Cyrodiil. During the Second Age, the Dark Elves allied with the Norse and the Argonians against the First Dominion of Aldmer and the Dagger Leap Alliance. It was in that era that Tiber Septim – the future Talos – undertook the conquest of Morrowind after subjugating Hammer Moor; House Redoran led the resistance, but they were defeated and the capital of The Duel was sacked. An armistice was signed whereby Morrowind would be integrated as a province of the Empire but they would be allowed to retain their religion, culture and system of government; Empire troops would be allowed to settle in Morrowind but not to interfere in the decisions of the Tribunal.

@NKCampbell my question is about an entire race, not about individual characters (and even in these terms, Thranduil is not a “Dark Elf”, as Dark Elves in the form I’ve described do not exist at all in Middle Earth).It’s a question about ethnology/anthropology rather than psychology, if you prefer to see this in these terms 🙂

The fact that a volcano catastrophically erupted in Dunmer’s homeland doesn’t necessarily change his identity or character, any more than the residents of Washington state have been made more “dark elven” by the eruption of Mt.St.Helen’s in their history. As for the other points 3-7, some of them apply somewhat, but not significantly more than to the other * mer * of TES.The bosmer have roguish abilities, Orsimer can be aggressive, familiar and distrustful of outsiders, all mer are believed to derive from the Altmer, etc.
