There are usually at least three anchor tether connection points on a vehicle. In sedans, these are usually located above/behind the rear seat of the vehicle on the rear parcel shelf. On some larger vehicles, such as vans, pickup trucks and SUVs, these anchor tether connection points may be located on the back of the vehicle seat, on the floor, roof or elsewhere.
The tether tether is located at the top rear of convertible, combination and all-in-one seats. It is adjustable and has a hook and loop strap that connects to one of the attachment points for the tether strap on your vehicle’s anchor. Most rear-facing car seats in the United States do not use a tether for installation. However, installations vary from model to model, so you should carefully review the instructions for your particular car seat and the instructions in your vehicle owner’s manual.

In addition, many car seats have built-in locks to lock the seat belt independently, without having to lock the seat belt as well. Consult your vehicle owner’s manual for details on how to lock your seat belt.
